Australia Day...our new job at the Olympic Superstore!

Ok so onto our latest adventure...Australia Day. With Australia Day quickly approaching we weren’t really sure what we were going to do. We thought about sussing out an Aussie pub in downtown Vancouver, but just weren’t really feeling it. On a last minute wing we decided to head up to Whistler for the day to suss out what was going on. We knew a bunch of Aussie’s pretty much ran the place, but had no idea how it was going to be. We thought we’d just wing the day and see what happened. Got the bus out of Vancouver at 8am and were planning on heading home from Whistler at 9pm...key word ‘planning’. Didn’t quite work out that way. Got up there around 10.30am and adopted a little Aussie whippet for the day. Walked around for halfers and admired the snow flaked town. There was snow everywhere, so awesome.

Quickly found out that there were A LOT of Aussie’s around. Found a place that looked like it was kicking an Aussie Day theme so we ventured in and weren’t let down.

This place was full of Aussie’s, like literally the only people in there were from Australia. Everyone wearing some kind of Aussie attire, whether it was a flag, footy jumper, fake tats, you know the deal. Aussie tunes pumped most of the day, there were meat pies with sauce being served up and VB cans being smashed by everyone. Fair to say we just stepped back into Australia for the day. From then on there really isn’t much to report. We drank, danced, chin wagged and had a top time. Ended up finding someone to stay with for the end. The Aussie love was out and people all over the pub were offering up there couch/floor for us to crash on. We literally were not allowed to leave. It was extremely messy, and probably not too much i can report here on a public forum.

We also started working at the Olympic Superstore. Things are pretty sweet there, it really isn’t rocket science. As Chris put it best “if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys”. This saying pretty much epitomises the place, but its fun and gives us something to do. We were hoping it’d also stop us going out as much, but that still hasn’t really happened. It started off crazy easy and buldgy, but now is kicking in that the Olympics have started. They are making 1 million plus a day so that puts it into perspective as to how bust they are. Crazy times. The Olympics is making this town go nuts, but i'll save that for another blog entry. I'll have to do a separate entry on whats been going on around town. Canadian's have literally lost their shit!
